Convex Group selects Alzheimer’s Research UK as its first global charity partner

Convex, the international specialty insurer and reinsurer, has chosen Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity, as its main charity partner. The partnership is initially for three years and Convex hopes to help raise vital funds for research and to raise much-needed awareness of dementia.

Convex has kicked off the partnership with a generous donation of £125,000 to the charity, with further funds expected to be raised by employees over the next 12 months.

Dementia is the UK’s leading cause of death and over half of people in the UK know someone affected by the condition. There are currently no treatments to slow, stop or prevent the diseases, like Alzheimer’s, that cause dementia, but research is making progress.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity dedicated to making life-changing breakthroughs in diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. The charity’s mission is to bring about the first life-changing treatment for dementia by 2025.

As part of the partnership, there will be a range of fundraising activities to get employees involved. With the current lockdown measures in place, the fundraising will be taking place virtually to start with, including taking part in Alzheimer’s Research UK’s virtual sporting challenges and even pub quizzing from their living rooms.

Stephen Catlin, Chairman and Chief Executive said:

“I am delighted that we will be supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK. This is such a fantastic cause and one that resonates deeply within our organisation. Dementia has a devastating impact on our society and one in three people born today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime unless we bring about life-changing preventions and treatments. By partnering, educating and fundraising for life-changing dementia research, we have the potential to make a huge difference; this is something I am proud my colleagues and I can get fully behind throughout the partnership.”

Ian Wilson, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Research UK said:

“We are incredibly proud to announce the launch of this partnership with Convex and couldn’t be more excited to see what we can achieve together. Through research, we will keep people connected to their families, their worlds and themselves for longer, and the support of Convex will be vital in powering the groundbreaking research that will transform lives.”
