Asda donates 1m meals as part of new fruit and veg pledge

Asda will donate the equivalent of one million meals during the start of 2025, as part of a brand-new “Winter Fruit and Veg pledge” with FareShare and the Coronation Food Project. Running from January to March, the initiative will see over 420 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables donated to the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and tackling food waste. Asda invests in new bio-LNG refuelling stations

Asda is investing in two new Bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas) refuelling facilities, as the retailer continues to make progress towards reducing overall carbon emissions. Working closely with Gasrec – a major fuel provider for commercial vehicles in the UK – the new refuelling facilities in Warrington and Dartford now mean Asda has thirteen fully operational Bio-LNG stations strategically located across the UK. Asda & Colgate donate 70k dental kits to schools to help fight tooth decay

Asda and Colgate have launched a new initiative to help combat tooth decay amongst 70,000 children living in some of the most deprived parts of the UK. The initiative will see more than 70,000 free dental kits, consisting of a toothbrush, toothpaste, an educational leaflet and a brushing chart for children, sent directly to over 1,600 schools, benefitting children throughout the country. Asda launches sustainable supply chain finance scheme

Asda has launched a new sustainability-linked enhancement to its Supply Chain Finance scheme in partnership with HSBC UK, which will see the retailer use financial incentives to encourage better sustainability practices within its supply chain. Launching in January 2025, the voluntary scheme will offer over 250 Asda suppliers who currently use the existing scheme access to three tiers of enhanced rates of financing. Asda invites customers to donate pre-loved children’s books to distribute back into local communities

Asda has announced it is joining part of a nationwide partnership with literacy charity the Children’s Book Project that will enable their customers across the UK to donate pre-loved children’s books in-store, for onward gifting to families who have fewer books of their own.  This country-wide campaign follows successful pilots earlier in the year in Asda stores across Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds and London which saw over 6000 booked donated and redistributed.
